Debbie Farrell and Colette McDonald had been working together to form a quartet for over a year when Debbie met Heidi Wilson in the hotel gym at Region 25 Competition. Soon after that fateful meeting, Heidi was a “free agent” and the 3 of them decided to move forward and look for a bass. They found Teresa Batten and by November of 2009, Myst was formed. With 2 singers in Dallas and 2 in Lubbock, most of their rehearsals take place at Teresa's lake house which is central for all. They love singing jazz and gospel but best of all is the fun times had together. Myst would especially like to thank their families for not only understanding but also nurturing us in our hobby – barbershop.
Colette McDonald has been singing tenor off and on for about 20 yrs. She grew up in a musical family and it has always been a fulfilling part of her life. She has 2 grown daughters, Tasha and Terra as well as a son-in-law, Brandon. When she is not working with the quartet, she is singing and dancing with the Rich-Tone chorus in Dallas, TX. She is a software developer by day, but in those remaining rare, spare moments she enjoys socializing with friends, traveling, exploring new wines and dabbling with arranging songs for the quartet.
Heidi Wilson sings lead and has been a part of Sweet Adelines International for 13 years. She is a Prairie Winds Chorus alumnus and was the lead in the quartet, Astound Sound. Heidi and her husband, Andy, have 3 teenage sons: Davis (16), Gene (15) and Keller (14). Heidi, a Texas Tech University graduate, is the choral director for Slaton High School and Slaton Junior High and she likes to spend her free time “crafting” or exercising.
Debbie Farrell sings baritone and began singing in middle school and continued singing through college. She heard a barbershop chorus rehearsing in a mall in Topeka, Kansas, joined that chorus and then became a part of the Richtone Chorus in 1992 when her family relocated to Dallas. Debbie is a piano teacher and sports program coordinator and spends her remaining time working out and creating scrapbooks. Debbie and her husband, Andy, have two grown daughters, Katie (24) and Megan (22) both kindergarten teachers and their favorite son-in-law, Tom.
Teresa Batten sings bass in Myst. Teresa began her barbershop journey 13 years ago when she joined the Prairie Winds Chorus where she is currently an assistant director. She was the bass of Rendition for 12 years and continues to perform with The Batten Family. Teresa had been married to her high school sweetheart, Kevin, for 34 years! Their sons, Brian and Cody, are both married to sweet women and have given them 3 (plus one due at the end of August) precious grandchildren: Ethan, Madison, and Trenda.
